When setting up your salt bath you want to use water that is rather hot, but make sure it is not so hot that you will burn yourself. Add in your Epsom salt while you are filling up the water because it can take a while for the salt to dissolve. I recommend starting out with only 1 cup of Epsom salt your first time. The standard amount used is 2 cups, but I would start on the light side just to see how your body reacts to this salt bath. Some people may use up to 4 cups or more for a very strong bath. Stay in the bath for roughly 30 minutes. You should notice some wrinkling in your hands and feet. When using more Epsom salt, it is generally a good idea to stay in the bath for a shorter amount of time. You have to develop a feel for what works for you because we all may react differently to this salt bath.

You should take some precautions when taking this salt bath. They can be extremely relaxing and stress relieving so you have to make sure you don’t over relax and fall asleep. You don’t want to fall asleep and drown. If possible, let someone know you are going to take an Epsom salt so he or she can check up on you at regular intervals. Another thing you can do is set an alarm for both keeping track of time and for making sure you don’t pass out in the bathtub. This salt baths can have some side effects which usually are limited to diarrhea or loose stool. This usually occurs the next day so I would suggest taking the bath on a night before the weekend especially when first starting out.
After you are done with your salt bath, your body will feel like it is caked with some kind of salty solution. This can be irritating to your skin and may even itch. To get rid of this gunk on your skin, take a quick shower to rinse it off.
